How the scoring works

  • Points

Every match is worth 1 point. There are 30 matches: five four-ball Thursday, five foursomes Friday, four four-ball Saturday morning, four foursomes Saturday afternoon, and 12 singles Sunday. A match level after 18 holes is halved. Each side takes 1/2. There are no playoffs.

  • Winning

The first team to 15.5 points wins the Cup. If it is 15–15 after the singles, the teams share the Cup. That shared finish is the only tie.

  • Singles

One player from each team. The lower score on a hole wins the hole. Equal scores halve the hole. The match ends when one player leads by more holes than are left.

  • Four-ball

Both partners play their own ball. The side counts the better score on each hole. Thursday had five of these. Saturday morning had four.

  • Foursomes

The side plays one ball. Partners take turns, and they swap who hits the tee shot on odd and even holes. Friday had five of these. Saturday afternoon had four.

  • Concessions

A player can concede a stroke, a hole, or the match. A conceded stroke counts as holed on the next shot. The hole does not have to be finished.

  • Player points

A win is 1, a halve is 1/2, a loss is 0. A player who does not take part does not get a point.
